Announcing Auditions for A Midsummer Night’s Dream!!
**Video audition must be submitted by May 10th**
This fanciful comedy is one of the most beloved of William Shakespeare’s works. Our production will focus on the poetry, physicality of characters, and magical storytelling. Most actors will be cast as two roles creating a strong company of very involved players. Directors are looking for actors who speak clearly and expressively. Here are the possible character doubles:
Theseus (Duke)/ Oberon (King of the fairies)
Hippolyta / Titania (Queen of the fairies)
Egeus (Hermia’s Father) / Bottom (a mechanical who portrays Pirimus in the mechanical’s play)
Hermia (In love with Lysander)
Lysander (In love with Hermia)
Helena (in love with Demitrius)
Demitrius (Helena’s former love)
Philostrate (attendent to Theseus)/ Puck (Mischevious attendant to Oberon)
Peter Quince (a mechanical) / Fairy
Flute (mechanical who portrays Thisbie in the mechanical’s play) / Fairy
Starvling (a mechanical) / Fairy
Snug (a mechanical) / Fairy
We look forward to meeting you, hearing your audition!
Jerry Gomes (director) & Suzanne Graff Gomes (assistant director)
To audition, you must complete 3 steps:
1. Complete JTC audition form:
2. Submit video audition:
Please submit one video recording by May 10 performing a 1 -1 ½ minute monologue.
This can be the same monologue you are submitting for Annie. It does not need to be Shakespeare. If you are not auditioning for Annie, prepare a brief monologue (3 paragraphs or less).
Email it to the director Jerry Gomes (email@example.com) and the assistant director Suzanne Gomes (firstname.lastname@example.org) by May 10.
Callbacks will be May 24th (and possibly May 25th) at 6:00 PM. There will be a few rehearsals over the summer. Rehearsals begin in earnest August 16.
Midsummer will be performing September 30 (Senior Preview), October 1 – 3rd.
3. Pay JTC fee NOW and Pay MSHCL fee in JULY:
There are two different fees that must be paid to participate in any JTC production.
1. The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) form MUST be filled out and the fee MUST be paid to the district. (Paid Techs are exempt from this.) ALL Jefferson activities require the MSHSL form for liability reasons. Even though the MSHSL activity paperwork and fee is required to participate, the district will not have the fall activities loaded into their system until July when they switch over to the 2021-22 school year. Cast members will be notified in July when it becomes available and will be required to complete the form and pay the fee as soon as possible. The current fee is $95 for MSHSL, however this is subject to change as the district deems necessary.
2. The Jefferson Theater Company Fee for actors covers the salary of the director, set building, costumes, etc. in addition to a recording of the show, the show T-Shirt, Cast Party, and any provided meals. This fee MUST be paid in order to be cast in the show. The fee for Tech/Costumers covers a recording of the show, the show T-Shirt, Cast Party, and any provided meals. The fee for Paid Tech covers a recording of the show, the show T-Shirt, Cast Party, and any provided meals.
We will only be accepting PayPal for payment: $120 (actors), $70 (tech) or $45 (paid tech–you must be hired by the district for this role). Payments are due on May 10 by 10:00 PM. Please note that there is a small fee for using PayPal.
Scholarships are available- please contact Laura Schmit at 612-270-9106 or email@example.com if you need a scholarship.
