The Crucible (One Act) is an abridged version of Arthur Miller’s incredibly powerful and moving four act play. The Crucible tells the story of the Salem witch trials that took place in the late 1600s. It was a time filled with paranoia and deceit. Young girls found power in accusing others of being witches. The accused were put to trial and ultimately brought to death through torturous ways. This play follows the story of the manipulative and powerful Abigail Williams who accuses her love interest’s (John) wife, Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch and all of the pain, chaos, and drama that ensues makes this a truly impactful piece.
The one act competition is a part of the Minnesota State High School League. We will bring The Crucible to competition with 3-6 other participating schools in our conference. After the initial competition, the winning casts will move onto the next level competition, and so on until the one act state competition. There are many rules and regulations for the one act such as a strict time limit and cast and crew size (no more than 20).
